Ken Asked.
While helpng a friend convert from AOL to Cox I ran into a problem
with Outlook Express. Whenever OE is opened a window appears requiring
the user to enter a password (the user name is already shown), After
entering the password the program functions normally.
Despite repeated attempts to "Save the Password" in the account setup procedure the function does not respond. Tried removing all accounts in the OE / Accounts / Mail window and started from scratch, to no avail. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. Ken
I have seen this occasionally, the way to fix it is to create a new mail profile in OE with a different name than the normal default of pop.west.cox.net - the pop.west.cox.net profile is corrupt and deleting it and recreating it with the same name will not correct the problem.
This problem plagues OE and Outlook alike for those of you who might run into it in the future.
My original answer to this question was a little confusing. You do not have to create a new email address, just a new profile in OE with your old email settings and a different name referring to these settings in the Mail Account list os OE. See the Related Link below for instructions with pictures

I hope this helps!
